VA Awarded Electronics Purchasing Award

April 22, 2015

At a Department of Energy ceremony on Earth Day, April 22, 2015, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs received an award for efforts to purchase environmentally preferable electronics.  Based on the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) ratings, the nonprofit Green Electronics Council, which administers the EPEAT product registry, awarded VA the maximum three stars for the EPEAT Purchaser Award.  One star was awarded for procurement in each of the three product categories covered by EPEAT standards (PCs/Desktops, Imaging Equipment, and Televisions).  Award criteria included having a purchasing policy for environmentally preferable electronics, as well as contract language requiring products to meet EPEAT standards.
