VA Wins Recognition for Electronics Purchasing that Reduces Costs and Avoids Hazardous Waste

March 17, 2017

VA’s electronics purchasing was recognized this month by the non-profit Green Electronics Council (GEC) for purchasing environmentally preferable electronics.  Through these purchases, VA will achieve over $10 million in energy savings over the products’ lifetimes, eliminate 1,406 metric tons of solid waste, and avoid the disposal of 239 metric tons of hazardous waste.  Based on the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) ratings, the GEC, which administers the EPEAT product registry, awarded a 2017 EPEAT Purchaser Award to VA with the maximum three stars, for FY 2016 purchases in three IT product categories:  PCs and Displays, Imaging Equipment, and Televisions.  This was VA’s third consecutive year earning three stars.
